Petrolina - Pedra Linda - (Beautiful Stone)

Photojournalism assignment for Save the Children International on Malnutrition and Child Mortality in Petrolina, and in the Trukka indigenous area of Cabobró, in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. Historically, the Truká's cosmology and religious territoriality are tightly connected to São Francisco River, which to the Truká represents life itself, both from an immaterial and material standpoint. The Elder/Chief, Seu Antonio, speaks about the rive as sacred. They live on the borders of the river, which to them is their mother and father.
